Scottish Boat Breaking
The Scottish Boat breaking team were on a farm this month. Our main Boatbreakers base is on the south coast but we cover every corner of Great Britain and Ireland. This time the boat breaking team up in Scotland had to collect a small yacht from a farm.
We believe her owner was storing her on a local farm and no longer wanted to keep hold of the boat. He had tried to sell the boat but with pressure to get the boat moved he eventually decided to scrap. Unlike trying to sell a boat the scrap option is easier to organise.
Scottish Boat Disposal
Our Scottish boat breaking team liaised with the owner and the farmer on the most convenient date. We then turned up with our trailer and winched the boat up and away for the return journey.
At Boatbreakers we try to make sure that even the boats in the far corners of the UK aren’t much more expensive than local boats. As we appreciate that the transport costs are what boost up the scrap price. Scottish boat breaking used to be a really expensive exercise as we had to get the boats back down to Portsmouth.
Over the years we have had some great trips up to Scotland to remove some really remote boats. One of the longest trips was up to Elgin. We had to dispose of a boat on site as it was completely rotten. Luckily because it was so rotten we were able to get it all gone in a single day. One perk for the Scottish boat breaking team was seeing the scenery along the way to the job.

This small yacht disposal was a different story as it was made of Fibre Glass. For all the issue of GRP being difficult to recycle at least it keeps the structural integrity during transport.
