Hurley 24/70 From Southsea Marina
The Boat disposal team were asked to collect a scrap a Hurley 24/70 which was moored in Southsea Marina. We had initially been asked to try and find a buyer through the Lonely Boats page. Despite having a great response to the advert the owner was soon in contact. Frustrated by the amount of people who would enquire and then disappear, she decided a more certain solution was needed.
With a mooring fee renewal around the corner and a price rise to boot. The owner wanted a solution for the boat and fast. On the face of it she was a nice little boat. But her owner was clear that she wanted her gone. Offering the boat for free was an option but the owner didn’t want to see the boat stripped and then abandoned like so many often are.
Prep the Boat For Less
Our plan was a simple one as always. As long as the boat’s engine started we would motor her to somewhere for lifting out and dropping the mast. We decided to take her out of Southsea marina to save the owner some money. There are plenty of local yards that could prep the boat for less. Luckily this Hurley 24/70 was a bilge keel boat so it sat nicely on our truck.
The team also then had the chance to test the Yanmar 1GM10 engine before it was removed during the scrap process. It’s always great to have to have this chance of seeing them run. Her sprayhood was also in good condition so that was also removed. As well as the hob and grill unit. These items will hopefully be re-sold and go on to be re-used by other boat owners. We always try and keep our prices for these items low as marine bits can be so pricey.
Despite the sadness of seeing the boat go the owner was pleased to have a swift resolution to the problem. We’re sure that the marina will also be happy too as they have a berth back that they can sell to another boat owner.
Mooring Fee Renewal Trap
