Hillyard Moonfleet 36 Disposal
Our Marine recycling and salvage team were tasked with collecting and disposing of a Hillyard Moonfleet 36 which was being stored ashore near the Hamble river.
Sadly over the last few years she had taken on water which had since rotted out her interior. We’re not sure on the circumstances of how she ended up becoming and end of life boat but we believe she’s spent the last few years out of the water.
From the initial pictures we were sent we could see she was a lovely boat in her day. Realistically she would have required a complete refit which would have taken a number of years and lots of money poured in.
Blocked in at the yard
One of the first challenges with the Hillyard was that she was blocked in at the back of the yard. This meant that a number of boats would have to go back in before she could be moved. Also because of her size she needed to be relaunched so the yard could unstep her mast ready for transport.
Her owner did make some money back against the disposal costs by selling some of the more valuable winches from the boat. If there is a chance owners can recover some value from the boat we always encourage it. It can make a big dent in their final scrap costs. Anything to make the process a more affordable one is something we aim for. Waste disposal costs and transport costs in particular can leave an owner with an expensive headache.
No longer paying storage fees
When our team could eventually get to the Hillyard Moonfleet 36 she was loaded onto our low loader. Then taken to our Boat Scrapyard to be broken down. Her owner despite being sad to see her go will be relieved that he is no longer paying thousands to store the boat.
