Garden Yacht Disposal in West Sussex
Garden Yacht Disposal jobs are always satisfying. Whenever we get asked to remove a boat that has sat untouched for years in a garden it’s a good challenge. Plus the team know that once the boat is gone the owner will have great satisfaction in getting their garden back.
The latest garden yacht disposal job was in Selsey which is just south east of Chichester. We had the call from the owner who told us he had an old yacht on a ropey trailer. It had been a project for him but it had been untouched now for a number of years. From looking at Google Maps we could see that access would be tricky. The property had a lot of land and a wide gate but there were a couple of sheds and some trees to consider. Standard stuff for a garden yacht disposal job.
Our yacht disposal team decided it was best to go and check it out first. We can usually tell in person if we’ll be able to get the truck into these tight spaces. It can be deceiving in pictures and we’ve been caught out in the past. The boat’s owner had said that he would be willing to cut down some of his Bramley apple trees if needed. Of course this is something we wanted to avoid if we could! Garden yacht disposal missions should never cause too much damage to the garden.
A Close Call
After a good look around and some filming to be sent off for a second opinion we were confident the boat could be collected. But we did insist it would be a close call either way. The driveway was definitely wide enough for our truck and so was the gate. However the truck needs to extend the legs before it can lift. This can be where things got too tight.
The garden yacht disposal team pressed ahead with the plan and booked in the Hiab. We knew that if the Hiab couldn’t navigate the slight bend in the driveway it could mean a chop on site.
Luckily for us the Hiab team are extremely skilled in getting into tight access sites. The lorry was reversed in next to the boat and the tree didn’t need to come down. We aimed to remove the old GRP fin keel yacht up into our cradle on the truck. Her trailer that she had been on was not fit to be used to support the boat during transport.
Scrap Metal
Once the boat was away it was just the old metal trailer left to sort. Our team reassured the owner that we also had a solution for the metal. At the time of writing a scrap metal merchant was due to come and collect the trailer.
