Dinghy Scrap Season
The start of Spring has turned into Dinghy scrap season for the Boatbreakers team. All of a sudden we have been inundated with requests to scrap unwanted dinghies. As you can see from our main picture they all ended up in one big Dinghy sandwich to make their final trip to the scrapyard.
At the base of the Dinghy sandwich was an RS400. She was brought into us by a local guy in Portsmouth. He had found that the internal plywood for the dinghy was wet through and soft. He quickly realised that it would have been too much work to try and repair. So he decided to bring her in for us to dispose of the hull. We could see that he was visibly saddened to part ways with the hull.
Sat on a Beach
Another dinghy in the pile was a Lark. This was collected from Hill Head sailing club where it had been sat on the beach for a number of years. It was a much used dinghy once upon a time but now was too far gone. Our team loaded the boat onto our truck and quickly had it back to our base in Gosport.
Next was an Enterprise that the team went to the New Forest to collect. After a scenic drive through the forest and the local ponies, donkeys, horses, cows and pigs we found her on a driveway. Our team quickly had the boat and trailer lifted and loaded for our return journey. We hope that we will be able to sell the trailer on as it seemed in good condition.
Pulled out of Gardens
The final four hulls in our dinghy sandwich included two toppers which were delivered to us by the owner. Then there were two dinghies pulled out of gardens in Rowlands Castle and Reigate respectively. The team got slightly lucky that the boats all fit together so well on our big boat trailer. We made sure that it had plenty of straps to hold it all together and the net to keep any bits from flying off.
