Derelict Dockrell 22 Yacht Disposal
Our yacht disposal team had a derelict Dockrell 22 boat to collect this week. We had been contacted by a local lady who owned some moorings in Chichester Harbour. One of the boats on her moorings was well beyond economical repair. Despite recent attempts to pass on the boat she had come to the conclusion that it was time to scrap.
From the pictures we had been sent she looked like a small bilge keel yacht. The boat had spent most of its life sat on a mooring that dries out at low tide, getting greener. After some dicussion about where to get the boat collected from we decided the simplest thing would be to have her lifted. Luckily the owner’s moorings were a short chug from Emsworth Yacht Harbour.
Biblical Amount of Rain
Our plan was certainly a simple one. We would send the team with our flatbed trailer to the marina. The owner would bring the Dockrell 22 down to the marina for lifting. The only thing we hadn’t equated for was the biblical amount of rain that was due to fall at the time of lifting.
Steve and the marina team had the boat lifted and loaded but got soaked through in the process. By the time that the boat was out of the water it was clear that the boat had actually lost one of her keels. So it’s lucky someone didn’t try and sail her away as a project. We are always glad to scrap the damaged derelict boats as they aren’t then a risk of being dumped or abandoned.
As always the team at Emsworth Yacht Harbour were really helpful. It’s a marina that we’ve had plenty of boats loaded in over the years. For anyone not familiar with the area it’s definitely one of the most pleasant local marinas.
Disposal Costs
We hope that the owner who runs the mooring now fills that space with a boat that will be loved and used. Plus that they’ll recover some of the cost for disposal of this Dockrell 22.
