Abandoned Boat or Skip?

Our Boatbreakers boat disposal team had another abandoned boat to collect. She was one of the messiest boat’s we’ve ever collected. In all of our years boat breaking we have removed some really messy boats. Most of the time it’s nature taking back over the boat. Whether that be by pigeons, seaweed, mussels or green decks.

The worst we have ever collected was completely covered in Pigeon droppings. It had been a floating aviary for a number of years. It clearly hadn’t been out of the water in many years as the growth on the bottom suggested.

No Chance of Going Back to Sea

However, our latest collection was a boat that had been stored on land. It looks as if the owner was living on board. But it had quickly become a skip. As you can see from the pictures it was completely full of rubbish.

To add insult to injury for the marina it had been abandoned with them. There was no chance it was ever going back to sea and with the state she was in there was no chance of saving her. Only a few items could be salvaged from her to try and sell or scrap.

Catch 22 For Boat Yards

Now the boat has gone we are sure the marina will sell the space to another owner for storage. It’s always a catch 22 for boat yards when a boat is dumped with them. As they then have to take legal ownership of the boat and dispose of it somehow. As the boat was local to us, we were happy to walk over to the yard and appraise the vessel. You don’t have to be a surveyor or any sort of boat expert to see this one was a mess.

When it came to collection the yard were extremely helpful. The mast was dropped ready and the boat was lifted on to our trailer. As always we strapped her down and secure for the trip to the boat scrapyard.

If you have an old boat that you just can’t sell, don’t despair. We can either help you re-home the boat through our Lonely Boats page or recycle using our Scrap Calculator. Make sure to join our Boat Scrapyard Facebook Group and subscribe to the Boatbreakers Youtube Channel.
