Boat Disposal in West Sussex
Our Boat Disposal services cover the entire country, however it’s always great to deal with local boats. All around our local area we see boats in gardens, fields, rivers, lakes and harbours that never seem to move. So when we get the call to clear what has become an unofficial landmark it is a satisfying job.
Clearing old boats is what our team are experts at. The latest boat we were asked to remove was an old Macwester 27 hull on some land in West Sussex. The end of life hull had been stripped down and we were told had been there for around 25 years. The land she was on was now due to be sold so the owners had to deal with the old wreck. West Sussex is just a short drive from our Hampshire based which meant we knew the area well.
Collecting End of Life Boats
There can often be lots of challenges when it comes to collecting boats from rural settings. Ground can be muddy and soft or access can be tight down country lanes. There can also be low hanging power cables that can restrict access or get in the way of our Hiab arm. It is often these forgotten simple things that can hinder a collection. People will say to us you’ll have no problem getting the boat. But when we turn up there are multiple cables above the boat. Luckily this wasn’t the case for this yacht.
This collection was our first of the day so our team were on site at 8am. By 8:30am the boat was lifted and loaded ready to head back to the Boat Scrapyard for disposal.
Clinker Built Wooden Boat
On the land there was also another clinker built wooden boat hidden under some brambles. We advised the owner to pull the boat out and get some pictures published on our Boat Scrapyard Facebook Group. We love to try and help save little old wooden boats. They just have so much character compared to the the GRP hulls. We are sure that once the owner gets some fresh pictures he will be inundated with offers for her.
